Loài mới được đặt theo tên của giáo sư Kraig Adler, một nhà nghiên cứu bò sát và ếch nhái nổi tiếng của Mỹ. Việc phát hiện loài mới là kết quả hợp tác nghiên cứu giữa các nhà khoa học Việt Nam, Trung Quốc và Đức. Kết quả được công bố trên tạp chí Zootaxa tháng này.
