Speaking at a conference in Ninh Binh Province titled "Green Growth on the Rise in the Mekong River Basin," Le Duc Trung, Director General of the Viet Nam National Mekong Committee (VNMC), told delegates yesterday that water resources in the Mekong Delta are facing great challenges due to increased population, expansion of irrigated areas and construction of mainstream hydropower projects.
Using mechanical parts harvested from the hospital junk pile, Chen built a two-stage freezer that chilled his glutinous rice balls one by one, quickly enough that large ice crystals didn’t form inside the filling and ruin the texture. His first patent covered a production process for the balls themselves; a second was for the packaging that would protect them from freezer burn. Soon enough, Chen realized that both innovations could be applied to pot stickers, too. And so in 1992, against the advice of his entire family, Chen, then 50, quit his hospital job, rented a small former print shop and started China’s first frozen-food business. He named his fledgling dumpling company Sanquan, which is short for the “Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China” — the 1978 gathering that marked the country’s first steps toward the open market.

The problem was that if the rest of America is still far from a land of equal opportunity, corporate America can look like a holdover from the days of Mad Men. Especially at the top of the heap. Consider, just for starters, that of the companies in the S&P 500 index, only 22 have female CEOs today — and that just may be a record. Three years ago, women CEOs in the S&P 500 numbered only a dozen, and their ranks were shrinking
Harvard University will hire a team of investigators to deal specifically with sexual harassment and assault complaints, and it will end a fragmented approach that allows various parts of the university to handle such cases differently, it said Wednesday.

LONDON — Parents in Britain who subject their daughters to genital mutilation will be prosecuted, Prime Minister David Cameron announced Tuesday, a day after new research showed that the number of victims of the practice here is about twice as high as previously believed.
The announcement, which came during a global Girl Summit co-hosted by the British government and Unicef, heralds tougher legislation that for the first time makes it the parents’ responsibility to protect their children. Now it is illegal only to perform genital cutting or to take a girl out of the country for that purpose.
Sports has a sexism problem, ESPN2 host Keith Olbermann argued in this powerful segment from his eponymous program, and it's self-perpetuating. He began by listing instances where women in sports have been targeted by sexist comments. The list is long, rapid-fire, and only scratches the surface.
"By some tiny amount each one of those things lowers the level of basic human respect for women in sports. And sooner or later, there are so many tiny amounts that the level of basic human respect is gone altogether," he says, his gaze trained on the camera and his audience. "Eventually after all the b-words and ho comments and penis remarks and nudity demands and waitress jokes, the most powerful national sports league in the world can then get away with suspending a wife-beater for just two games."
