Monday’s court ruling, after a settlement brokered by the attorney general of Virginia, has been hailed as a victory by students, faculty and alumnae who fought to rescue the small 114-year-old college, affectionately nicknamed “the pink bubble.”
The court settlement provides for new leadership and an infusion of cash, but the jubilation on Tuesday was mixed with wistfulness here, and a sense that things are winding down and starting up all at once.

The president of Cooper Union announced his resignation this week amid infighting and an inquiry by the New York State attorney general into the management of the college’s finances.
Mr. Bharucha’s announcement came after five trustees on the 23-member Cooper board resigned in unison.

The median salary for public university presidents was $428,250 in the 2014 fiscal year, up about 7 percent from the previous year, according to an annual survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education.
The survey included data on 238 chief executives at 220 public universities and systems in the United States.

Of the 50 highest-charging hospitals, 49 were for-profit institutions, most of them operated by big chains like Community Health Systems and Hospital Corporation of America. Under the Affordable Care Act, nonprofit hospitals are required to provide charity care or discounts to low-income people but that mandate does not apply to for-profit hospitals.

The group argued in a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service dated Monday that the Walmart Foundation violated terms of its tax-exempt status by targeting millions of dollars in donations that would directly benefit the retailer.
The Walmart Foundation’s contributions in some cities rose steadily as Walmart tried to curry local support and gain access in those markets, according to the complaint. The foundation donated just over $200,000 to organizations in Los Angeles in 2008 and 2009, the complaint said, but raised that amount to $1.4 million in 2011, just as plans to open a store were getting underway. In 2013, the year that store opened, donations dropped to about $230,000.

UBND TP.HCM vừa có văn bản trả lời Trường ĐH Hùng Vương TP.HCM về việc trường này xin phép tuyển sinh năm 2015.
Theo đó, UBND TP.HCM cho biết hiện vẫn chưa báo cáo đề nghị Bộ GD-ĐT xem xét cho phép trường tiếp tục tuyển sinh trong năm 2015.

Đây là số liệu thống kê ở cả tám ca thi trong bốn ngày thi tại một số cụm thi tuyển sinh vào ĐHQG HN.
Theo quy định đã được ĐHQG Hà Nội công bố trước kỳ thi, thí sinh có điểm bài thi đánh giá năng lực từ mức 70 điểm trở lên sẽ đủ điều kiện để đăng ký xét tuyển vào các trường ĐH, khoa trực thuộc ĐHQG Hà Nội (riêng thí sinh thi vào Trường ĐH Ngoại ngữ - ĐHQG Hà Nội - cần bổ sung điều kiện đạt điểm bài thi ngoại ngữ từ 4/10 điểm trở lên).

Một bạn đọc cho rằng, cách thi trên máy tính của Đại học Quốc gia Hà Nội rất hay, nhưng có thể gây khó khăn cho học sinh vùng sâu, xa, vì các em chưa có nhiều điều kiện tiếp xúc.
Năm 2015, Đại học Quốc gia Hà Nội thống nhất dùng bài thi đánh giá năng lực xét tuyển đại học chính quy. Thí sinh sẽ làm bài thi được tổ chức vào 2 đợt, cuối tháng 5 và đầu tháng 8. Bài thi được thực hiện trên máy tính tại các phòng tiêu chuẩn. Kết thúc bài làm, thí sinh sẽ biết ngay điểm của mình.

Số lượng học sinh đăng ký vào các trường THPT công lập không chuyên tăng gần 10.000. Đây là áp lực rất lớn cho thành phố trong mùa tuyển sinh năm nay.
Theo số liệu công bố của Sở GD-ĐT Hà Nội, tổng số đăng ký dự thi là79.653 thí sinh.Trong khi đó, các trường THPT công lập chỉ có 56.185 chỉ tiêu (chiếm 60-70%). Còn lại, hơn 20.000 học sinh phải học tại các trường dân lập, trung tâm giáo dục thường xuyên, trung cấp chuyên nghiệp.
