TT - Trong khuôn khổ Năm Việt Nam tại Pháp, Viện Phim Pháp (Cinémathèque Française) sẽ tổ chức tại Paris từ ngày 11 đến 27-6 chương trình “Toàn cảnh điện ảnh Việt Nam” ở một quy mô chưa từng có.<br>36 phim truyện và tài liệu, trong đó có 31 phim của 24 đạo diễn người Việt, sẽ được trình chiếu nơi đây. Được biết, tiêu chuẩn tuyển chọn là những bộ phim truyện có bản nhựa 35 li ở Pháp. Chương trình khai mạc với phim Mùa ổi cùng sự có mặt của tác giả Đặng Nhật Minh. Với số lượng phim đồ sộ này, “Toàn cảnh điện ảnh Việt Nam” sẽ giới thiệu nhiều thế hệ đạo diễn Việt Nam, từ các “cây đa” của phim truyện Phạm Kỳ Nam (Chom và Sa), Hồng Sến (Cánh đồng hoang), Phạm Văn Khoa (Chị Dậu)... đến các tác giả mới của phim tài liệu như Đoàn Hồng Lê (Đất thuộc về ai), Trần Phương Thảo (Trong hay ngoài tay em), Nguyễn Thị Thắm (Chuyến đi cuối cùng của chị Phụng, Tuổi Trẻ ngày 20-4).

Được biên soạn liên phương pháp giữa văn tự học - văn bản học - ngữ âm học lịch sử - từ vựng học lịch sử - từ nguyên học - từ chương học, “Nguyễn Trãi Quốc âm từ điển”* dành cho những người muốn tìm hiểu tiếng Việt qua tác phẩm Quốc âm thi tập của thi hào này.

VietNamNet Bridge – Art critic and culture researcher Phan Cam Thuong has published books about Vietnamese fine arts history since 1984. He teaches at the Viet Nam Academy of Fine Arts' Faculty of Art History and Criticism.
His latest book, To Ngoc Van – The Mirror that Reflects Vietnamese Society, 1906-1954, is about one of Viet Nam's top painters in the 20th century.

Vừa qua, trẻ em của huyện Kim Bôi (tỉnh Hòa Bình) đã có buổi triển lãm ảnh với chủ đề “Các yếu tố bảo vệ và công tác phòng chống rủi ro cho trẻ em trong cộng đồng” do ChildFund Việt Nam tổ chức. Buổi triển lãm trưng bày khoảng 120 bức ảnh do 20 trẻ em người Mường chụp trong hai tháng 4 và 5/2014.

In the late 1990s, planning authorities in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi pushed the imaginary line between city and country several kilometres westward, engulfing dozens of rural settlements. As state policies forced rapid urbanization, villagers whose families had farmed the land for generations saw rice fields levelled, irrigation canals filled, and large avenues flanked by residential towers, big-box stores, and office buildings spring up.

Danielle Labbé considers a century of change to the settlement of Hòa Mục -- a community that underwent a rapid transition from rural village to urban neighbourhood. Through extensive research in the community, Labbé studies not only the changing lives of villagers, but also the state regulations and territorialization projects that drove these changes on the outskirts of Hanoi, and the early urban changes in the decades that preceded the reforms and continue to influence the area’s urbanization.

The Outsider
by Albert Camus, translated from the French by Sandra Smith
For many years, Stuart Gilbert’s 1946 version was the standard English text. In the 1980s, it was supplanted by two new translations—by Joseph Laredo in the UK and Commonwealth, and by Matthew Ward in the US. Ward’s highly respected version rendered the idiom of the novel more contemporary and more American, and an examination of his choices reveals considerable thoughtfulness and intuition.
Translation is inevitably to a degree subjective. The quality of a translator will depend, then, not merely on her understanding of the mechanics of a language, or on her facility as a writer of prose, but also on her capacities as a reader of texts, her sense of subtext, of connotation, of allusion—of the invisible textures that give a narrative its density and, ultimately, shape its significance. Sandra Smith is a very fine translator indeed.

But even from the grave Mr. Hastings has demonstrated anew an ability to reframe the debate. The novel, exhumed by his spouse after his death and published last week, reads as vivid archaeology that reveals much about the present moment.
The book seems eerily relevant in part because it arrived the same week it became clear that while America was done with Iraq, Iraq is not done with America, not by a long shot.

BEIJING — The new memoir of Hillary Rodham Clinton, “Hard Choices,” which gives blow-by-blow accounts of tough discussions with Chinese officials, particularly on human rights, has been blocked in China, according to the American publisher.
No Chinese publisher made an offer to buy the rights for the book to be translated into Chinese for sale on the mainland, said Jonathan Karp, president of Simon & Schuster, which published the American edition.
The English version of the book was delisted from Amazon China on June 10, the day of publication in the United States, a move that effectively barred wide distribution in China, Mr. Karp said.
